National Digital Twin
for Agriculture Program

The National Digital Twin for Agriculture Program is an initiative of the Australasian Space Innovation Institute to develop a shared digital foundation that enables agricultural data, research models, satellite observations and artificial intelligence to be more effectively connected, accessed and reused.

Australia's primary industries are observed and modelled in more detail than ever, yet much of the information collected through Earth observation and other sources never reaches the decisions it could inform.

These obstacles are not only technological but also economic, human and structural: fragmented datasets, research delivered as isolated projects, effort duplicated across sectors and jurisdictions, and slow translation into practice, all compounded by climate volatility, water scarcity and stalling productivity.

The National Digital Twin for Agriculture Program is developing shared digital infrastructure that brings together satellite observations, agricultural data, research models and artificial intelligence to support better decision-making for Australian agriculture.

Rather than creating a single digital twin of Australia’s agricultural landscape, this program provides the foundation from which multiple digital twins, research tools and decision-support services can be built, allowing end-users to model different scenarios, test ideas and understand the potential impacts of decisions before they are made.

By making data and modelling capabilities easier to connect, access and reuse, the program aims to accelerate research and innovation across the sector, while delivering benefits to farmers through the products, services and advisers they already use, without requiring them to adopt another technology platform.

The National Digital Twin for Agriculture program is making space for Earth.
